It is time, once again, for Stream of Consciousness Sunday. I had a long day yesterday, so I am praying for quiet time writing, creating and just being... with maybe some laundry & chores thrown in just for pleasure?
Anyway - today's totally optional prompt from Jana's Thinking Place is....
Journey
When I got my new car this Fall, the first thing I thought was, “Roadtrips! I can take roadtrips!”
This, after Samuel insisted last year his limit was four days.
I keep hoping he will grow out of it because I love road trips with my family so much I can’t imagine not taking them because he is going through a prepubescent – hopefully not lifelong – phase. Emma is almost ready to start planning her post-junior-year college touring junket, so unless Samuel wants to stay behind in Bakersfield, he needs to agree to spend longer than four days on a road trip. It will be more like four weeks or longer.
My fingers stop moving. I can feel my thoughts bumping into a wall.
It feels too big and onerous (not sure if that’s the right word) to launch myself over right now. I know I have nearly eighteen months to work it out, but with a child living on the autism spectrum one must pre-plan for everyone’s sanity and enjoyment of whatever journey we take together.
I hear the television in the background. It is a former American Idol contestant talking about weight watchers. I want quiet. I hear another commercial. I want to journey without other people watching television within my writing earshot.
I want to journey on more literary paths, perhaps for writers I have yet to discover. I want to take those back roads others don’t know about much. I want to journey into my own unknown. I keep writing, twenty four seconds on this journey.
Tickety tockety time is uppity.
