Last night I was sitting in my living room, much like I am now, with my lap desk across my legs, wondering, “I am at a time crossroad. What shall I do now?”
The clock hovered on 7:35 and I literally heard this question in my heart,
“What will make you happiest when you wake up tomorrow morning? Do that! Do the thing now that will help you feel happiest in the morning.”
My heart asking that question made me happy right then and it even made me happy to make the choice to do a load of laundry. Usually I am not all that excited to do laundry yet when I layer the question upon the action it completely transformed my thoughts and opinions.
I knew what I wanted to wear today and I knew for a fact that outfit was in the dirty laundry pile.
I know Hafiz probably wasn’t thinking about chores when he wrote “An awake heart is like a sky that pours light,” and yet this is exactly how it felt to hear the question and then live it as I gathered my things to wash and then washed them, dried them, folded them and yes, put them away.
Everything shifted instantly. I heard the question, responded surprisingly and took action. No angst about chores, no inner arguing. Simply asking, hearing, acting and laughing to myself.
This morning I woke up thinking “How to best apply this technique?”
It may be used whenever you find yourself at a time crossroads, a time transition. Ask yourself, “What will make me the happiest when I look back over this next two hours,” and in fact, is the question that has formulated much of my planning for this season and into the larger scale future as well.
How about we look at this concept together.
I made a periscope video this morning on the topic to take you into your next inspired moments – and perhaps longer.
What will make you happiest?
Watch, ask, listen and act. And remember, always to laugh.
