It is impossible to spend too much time in San Francisco. People go for many different reasons. My biggest interest in the Bay Area?
Literary hotspots, historical markers of word-love: these are my favorite haunts in the city known for the Golden Gate bridge, Alcatraz and Cable Cars, among other things.
Emma and I popped into San Francisco briefly Saturday, leaping through North Beach and then heading to Berkeley’s Poetry Walk.
One of the spots we didn't get to see is almost visible in this next image: Ina Coolbrith Park. Miss Coolbrith was the first poet laureate of California. The view from the park bearing her name is spectacular.
The stairs leading to it are barely visible over Emma's shoulder.

Southern California’s Hollywood has a walk of fame of celebrity but the intellectual crowd to the north honors literary illuminati via poetry on plaques in the pavement.
