Life Coaching Tips

Take your lists and prioritize your top 3 goals. Take some time and brainstorm ideas using methods other than a list. Take a week to work on a plan to begin manifesting what you want.

When you find yourself thinking negatively, jot those supposed barriers into a small notebook. At the end of the day, write a letter to those negative thoughts being grateful for their help and thank them for wanting to help you reach your goals. Then tell them why you are going to go for it... anyway.

Straight Line Thinking - Yes No Maybe So?

So what is flirting with light? Responding to it via any form of creativity or soulfulness. Meditation, Writing, Sketching.....

This morning the light from the just rising sun peeking through the branches of trees flirted with me. The rays woo'ed me, trying to take me away from my busy (yes, self imposed) schedule for the day. I am an artist-of-life and morning photos especially delight me.

I was strong, though, resilient. My intellect knows I have a short week facing me. I'll be traveling on Friday and I have few details about what awaits me at my destination.

I type those words feeling slightly arrogrant and filled with self control until I realize perhaps that is why the sun was wooing me. I love my early morning creative play with the sun. It is one of those activities which is simple, free and sometimes is the highlight of my day.

I look at the sun now, still low in the sky, still encouraging me.

My internet was going slowly this morning and I decided to take a few moments to write.
I am grateful to the sun for continued lessons about moving through life with love and light all around me, even when I choose to ignore the gentle, invisible suggestions in favor of more logical "straight line only" thinking.

I know "straight line only thinking" can get me from Point A to Point B quickly, but most of the time my life is about twists and turns and exploration rather than speed. This morning my "straight line self" told me to just go straight home, no meandering around looking for fun early morning photos.

I sort of listened.

I drove home in my usual way, but in one block I found three cool photo ops.

The blow up gorrilla, grouchy in the morning, is my favorite.

The Best Kept Secret Wish Come True: "I wish I had your energy" - Clue: Be a Beginner Again

Want more energy? Read on to discover how it is as easy as snapping your fingers and saying ABRACADABRA!

I hear different versions of this all the time:

"I wish I had your energy."

Are you ready for a dose of irony?

The reason I have energy for my projects and adventures is specifically connected with how I approach whatever shows up in my day. I usually have a plan of sorts, a routine I enjoy following the most, but as a Mom - Entreprenuer - Artist and everything else I do, this is not always easy.

It is easy, though, to carry my creative self along when I am doing "drudgery on my to-do list" by being alert to whatever delights me as I move through the kidschlep or the grocery shopping or the meeting with teachers or this or that committee meeting.

At least one day a week, for example, I drop my daughter at school at 7:25 am and then go seeking photo ops. Sometimes I go to a specific place but often times I just wait for something in my line of sight to inspire me.

Again, because of the mindset and the intention, I continually find things that inspire me.

Might these items seem exciting to everyone?

I doubt it.

Yet when you look at the sun just so and rearrange your line of vision, suddenly everything changes.

Each time I take a mini-jaunt where I allow my creative side the room to roam, I am energized. It isn't as if I intend to be energized, I simply intend to be creative and the energy follows along, gleefully.

Therein lies the secret: you do have my energy.

It lives in your mindset, your intentions and the actions you take because of your mindset and intentions.

Here's your challenge: today give that creative life force that flows through your blood space to play. You don't have to change any particular "to do" in your life, it is instead a "to be". If you want to be more creative, you don't have to take a class.

You may need to look at the view at your window differently. Many of us begin with phonetography. Shoot whatever intrigues you, even if only for a split second. Take some more shots.

Put your phone away and go about your day.

When you have another smidge of time, look what you created from the space of beginners mind. What do you see in those photos? How are you reflected in those photos? Are there any metaphors or comparisons that rise up right away?

Hopefully you have an old fashioned notebook or journal around. Scribble some notes. Go to sleep. Wake up and watch what happens to your routine.

If you practice this for several days - that is all it takes - the world as you see it will change.

Your life as you see it will change.

People will say to you, "I wish I had your energy!"

Oh, they do - they just haven't been shown yet.

Everything Old is New Again: Collage & Assemblage in the Creative Every Day Check In

This week was primarily about progress rather than completion. Its one of the aspects of mixed media I like - layers and layers - and it is also one of the most frustrating!

I did manage to complete one piece very quickly - this collage of book pages and an image, both from the early 1900's. I purchased the book at a library sale for a dime and the photo I bought at a local antique store for fifty cents.

I enjoy rescuing photos from antique shops: I always wonder what happened that their family let such intriguing photos go?

I created this assemblage to take some outdoor photos including the collage - in it you see a piece of architectural salvage: a Victorian Eye Brow window I bought last week at Pasadena Architectural Salvage.

The box on the left was made to hold cancelled checks - definitely a relic from the past. On the right you see the collage which includes some quotes from Elizabeth Akers Allen, a poet from the 19th century. The quotes are primarily about again, which I thought matched the wistful expression on the mysterious man's face.

I hope by midweek I will have another report for you as I will be going to Florida at the end of the week to visit my new grandbaby and will be gone until Tuesday of next week.
