We repurposed this blog post in today's Drop In Writing Community. Monday through Friday from 11 am PST to Noon PST we gather to write.
We even include a dance/stretch break at 11:30 followed by a poem and a prompt. If you're feeling at all blocked or could simply use the inspiration of writing community, tune in by clicking this link to my Periscope Channel - you may watch and participate live or view a replay:
Quote:
"People, I have discovered, are layers and layers of secrets. You believe you know them, that you understand them, but their motives are always hidden from you, buried in their own hearts. You will never know them, but sometimes you decide to trust them."
-- Veronica Roth
Questions:
Is there a secret you are holding for someone else? What does that feel like for you?
Do you hold a secret within yourself? What would happen if it was "found out?"
If a person you trusted started to unlayer your layers, your secrets and more layers, what would they find there? How would you change from being that vulnerable?
List:
Once your list is complete, choose one or two items for an additional writing prompt. Keep adding to your list as you go along for the next few days, even if you go over 10 or over 5.
Write a list of 10 Lessons Secrets have taught you.
Write a list of 5 people you would trust with a secret. Why them?
Writing/Blogging/Creativity Prompt
If I told you my secret, you would....
If you told me your secret, I would.....
The secrets other people kept from me have.....
Field Work
There are two ways to handle this one:
1. Create a work of art on the theme of "My Secrets"
2. Seek out conversations with people you can be vulnerable with and vice versa. Initiate open hearted talks about secrets: yours, theirs and others and how secrets have impacted your life. Later, write about it or create more art around it... or whatever suits you and your work.
Be open to wherever creativity takes you.
