Preface: I have been traveling this week and alas, haven't even been remotely close to the keyboard. I haven't been able to approve posts or comment at all AND guess what? I am at a keyboard today so I am presenting a Literary Granny I wasn't expecting to present, but hey - I think you'll enjoy learning more about her today.
You may think you know all there is to know about Queen Elizabeth I, but did you know she was also a poet? I suppose the trick is many of the people in her day wrote poetry for pleasure and entertainment, sort of like we may sit and watch movies or some of you play video games.
She didn't have to worry about publishing or the like because - she was the Queen.
Here's proof:
sore afraid?
so dismayed.
power and skill
thee any ill.
shall alter thee?
conquer me?
were not blind,
rule my mind.
doth conquer kings,
and earthly things,
bear the sway
not obey.
Fortune’s rede,
with such speed
jest with thee.
thy brackish tears,
thy fears.
unto woe,
gave wise men blow,
all dread,
thou shalt speed.
