From Project Reflect ~ December 5:
Accomplishments
Did you finally land your dream job? Did you have your first child? Did you finally find “the one?” What is your biggest accomplishment for 2012?
I read this prompt right before I ran out the door to do my morning Momschlep duties. Emma to EBHS followed by breakfast with Samuel at Burger King and then home to brush teeth and off to school. This morning I didn’t eat breakfast, though, I drew a zentangle on an old dictionary page.
Yes, I know this sounds odd, but it works to create clarity in miraculous ways.
I considered what I could label “biggest accomplishment” and came up with a ragtag group of not so big accomplishments but ones that required courage: I didn’t win any awards for storytelling this year, there weren’t any local opportunities of storytelling contests. I did, however, participate in a sort of storytelling concert. I told two stories, including one I had never told before in my life. It is going to be published – using a pseudonym. It took guts to tell that story, especially when I thought most of the other storytellers words felt very safe.
I survived melanoma. Skin Cancer. The Big M. I am still not very happy with the wound and its healing although the fact it is shaped like a heart should cheer me up, right? I may have to get more surgery in January and I won’t know until early January if that will happen or not.
Maybe it is my fault for expecting big accomplishments to be something like “I climbed Mt. Everest” or “I performed on Broadway.”
As I drew my zentangle, I “got” what I could actually call my “big accomplishment” for 2012.
Sometimes continuing is it. Sometimes continuing IS the Big
Thing.
The very daily, non-sexy, sometimes dragging my feet agreement to make something of each of these days. The fact I write daily, the fact I get my children off and they know I love them with every ounce of me. The fact my daughter informed me “My friends say you love me too much.”
I have a feeling for 2013 my Big Accomplishment will be much sexier.
For 2012 “Simply Continuing” is just right.
What is YOUR biggest accomplishment for 2012?
