When I was a little girl, one of the rituals was to ask to read “The Funnies” from the Newark Star-Ledger. I remember lying on the floor of our Hawthorne Avenue living room gazing at Blondie, Brenda Starr, and Family Circle.
Now, I just look around the places I happen to be to find Sunday Humor.
Today is something of a grand opening, I am guessing from the balloon display, at Oildale’s brand new Beer Bank. I laugh every time I see it and today I had to take a photo and share it with my friends who may or may not get to drive through Oildale as regularly as I do.
And by the way: I have an appreciation for this special part of Bakersfield. Obviously.

Coming this week ~ announcements of new Writing Camps for Summer 2012 and later this week, a special celebration of Charlotte Perkins Gilman who in two days in June (the 6th and 7th, 1890) wrote The Yellow Wallpaper, a novella whose words continue to impact the world even though so many people have never heard of it. I will be honoring Charlotte and her legacy to the world this week as well. Be watching for more details here.
