When I first read today’s prompt, I thought we were being asked to share the art we have in our home. I was excited because I am blessed to have a lot of art in my home… made by me and some of my local Artist friends. I am a part of the creative community here in Bakersfield, so I thankfully know where to find art and purchase it at prices that aren’t too far above my price range. >> happy smiles<<
Just yesterday I made forward progress on one of my own pieces… using a different “canvas” than usual, I have been painting terra cotta pots and filling them with plants I grow from other plants. I was blessed with some plants a friend was giving away last Spring & now I have an entire pothos family.
Here is a portrait of them… my most recent, less than 24 hour art in my home.
Now, if I was going to purchase art from someone else – my most prized piece possible would need to be by a woman artist just on principle. My favorite 19th Century Self Portrait Artist is a French Woman you may have never heard of before: Élisabeth-Louise Vigée-Le Brun.
My most favorite is her “Self Portrait with Julie” perhaps because of my love for my children – they are my greatest collaborative creations – and the love she shows for her child who happens to share my name.
There is also a painting at the Norton Simon museum permanent collection in Pasadena by a woman painter that is both tragic and beautiful.
And upon researching, guess who painted it? None other than Elizabeth LeBrun! Because of the Summer Blog Challenge, I signed my daughter and I up for a tour of the Women's Art at the Norton Simon & have invited several friends for a Mother/Daughter art day. How cool is this?
Thank you, dear friends. Looking forward to perusing your art ideas!
