It has been a while since I have posted here in Creative Every Day. I have been steadily doing my art-thing, but haven’t been sharing as much. I can’t say why because there really isn’t one. Instead I will say I am grateful to be here and look forward to interacting with all of you again!
It has been a season of reawakening – with more on the horizon.
You know that buzzy feeling you get when something is on its way? Like a pregnancy of a different sort, almost. Usually my summers are a time to refresh through rest, but for the first time in a long time this Summer, I come to it feeling quite rested before it even began. I actually looked FORWARD to my children being done with the school year.
Like I said, it is a season of reawakening.
My biggest evidence of that, perhaps, is in the garden I have been creating inside my home.
It has also been years since I have had houseplants and I was handed down a few in February.
I decided to grow a new pothos from the existing pothos. Once I did this, it was like something clicked into place. I asked for Terra Cotta pots for Mother’s Day and started painting them almost right away. Here are my most recent repotting – newly potted – and soon-to-be-potted in my little pothos family:
The biggest one was just repotted two days ago. I didn’t just toss a bunch of soil into the pot, I started with rocks I had gleaned from the river, some grapefruit rinds and old twigs from past year’s Christmas Trees plus a couple pages from a poetry book (on the topic of Revelation) and Kate Chopin’s The Awakening.
I am so glad I took the time to find how to protect my terra cotta painting & create such simple yet fulfilling, useful and alive works of art.
I look forward to seeing your work this week and in the weeks to come!
