"Every actor and actress is possessed of the absorbing passion to create something distinctive and unique." ~ Hattie McDaniel
I am officially on theater sabbatical. I had been cast in a show but due to unforseeable family issues, I can not be in it.
I haven't been on an official sabbatical from theater since Samuel first went back to school after his diagnosis with autism so it has been a long time and what I have discovered this time around is how much energetic space has opened even in this first couple of weeks of freedom from learning lines, freedom from having to be anywhere at any specific time, freedom from worry about whether I got the role or not....
And I have freedom to create something distinctive and unique off stage, too. I have been able to let my projects possess me and possess me, they have.
I am working on art for a show titled "Still Silent After All These Years" which is inspired by song lyrics by Tori Amos.
I have had several concepts come and go but this one took me by the throat and wouldn't let go. We went and snapped photos yesterday and this morning, on my Flickr account, this comment - which affirmed me more than I can say:
"What is the story about the doll, love the photos."
Drop for the show is next weekend. I have one piece complete and three in process. I am not sure which of the three I will actually complete, but I am content if this is all I do for the show. Just the experience alone has been well worth it.
The "story" if forthcoming, but I would love to hear if anyone sees any story within just these images of the doll I am calling Marcella Ann.
