It was a weekend of creative firsts for me. The most exciting and wow, I'm glad I did it, was my participation in Bakersfield's First Friday: a celebration of art held downtown throughout the year on the first Friday of each month. Usually I am performing on Friday nights but finally, everything worked out so I could meet and greet and share my word-love with everyone who walked down 19th Street!
The Poetry fire is shown here along with my bronze portable writing prompts - they turned out so cute, didn't they?
I was right next to a plug so I was able to plug in the fire which attracted people like crazy. People kept coming over and just staring at it - which gave me a chance to tell its story as well as engage people about Writing Camp. The most exciting part of it was I learned more about what to do next month.
I sold some poetry tiles and I wrote personalized haiku for a nomimal fee. Children also drew at the Camping table I set up, so I felt like I was reaching out to many.
I'm looking forward to July even now!
