A part of me asks what the heck I was thinking when I made up this challenge. I can't blame anyone else but myself. What is it? On Monday, March 28, 2011 - I am going to write a poem length book in a day. It is called Upper La Cresta Sojourn (yes, the title came first, as a title of the project) and the plan is to follow the inspiration of Bernadette Mayer who wrote Midwinter Afternoon in one day, a poem length long form poem.
I am up to a huge challenge Monday. Less than eleven hours away I will start, actually. Perhaps by the time you read this, I will be busily at it.
My plan is to write throughout the day at a variety of locations with the hope being I will find inspiration both in the ordinary life using many of the ordinary rhythms, but also to inject the inspiration of places around my home as a context for my words as well.
I also hope people will prompt me via twitter and text and if people come to sit alongside me as I write, I hope they "feed" me words and phrases as well so it is collaborative.
So - that's what I am up to. As wild as that sounds, I am excited for it.
Mostly!
Here are my locations for the day.
6 AM to 7:30 AM at my home, also known as The Writing Porch of JJS
7:30ish to 8:15 - Drive Samuel to school
8:15 - 9:15 - San Miguel Commemorative Grove
9:15 - 10:15 - The Panorama Bluffs
10:15 - 12:00 - The Espresso Cafe
12:00 - 3:00 - The Writing Porch of JJS
3:15 - 4:30 - Dagny's (my one non-Northeast Location)
4:30 - 5:30 - Pick up Samuel from VAC
5:30 - 9:30 - The Writing Porch of JJS
9:45 - 11ish - Cindy's
and then, falling to sleep in a pile of poetic bliss.
Or so the plan goes.
