December 17 – Lesson Learned What was the best thing you learned about yourself this past year? And how will you apply that lesson going forward? (Author: Tara Weaver)
I keep trying to whittle this list down and so far, it isn't working very well. I tried to do an odd ranking system with stars and plus signs and it just made it more confusing.
I did the old eye doctor trick: "Is this more of a big lesson or this one? This one.... or this one...." and... I finally just took the fourth on my list and said, "Let go of the #1 lesson and open it up for discussion, instead."
I have a request for you:
Please take just a moment and tell me which of these lessons resonate with you. Maybe it will help me whittle some more, or maybe - if we are blessed - it will open something else up for both, each and all of us.
In 2010 I learned:
Yesterdays ( And yestermonths and yesteryears) seeds sown yield today's bounty.
People like me, they really really like me!
The approval that matters the most is my own.
Giving up is not the same as letting go.
I know more than I think I know.
I am more valuable than I think I am to more people than I know that I am.
I lead a poetic life.
Being unconventional rocks. Claiming my weird, odd-duck ways is uber attractive. And it is perfectly ok to use words like uber.
Loving well is its own reward.
I feel power from place, especially visiting places where creative legends worked, loved and lived.
Important-to-me people's eyes light up when they see me and I see them.
You CAN go back again.
Effort is usually recognized by people who matter, even when nothing is said.
Process and product are often the same thing.
I would rather receive the gift of a 25 cent book from the clearance box at goodwill and a pack of tinkerbell pencils from the dollar store than an expensive beige sweater I will never wear.
I long for conversations of the heart and soul, which is why I am asking you to join me in conversation here today.
So I'm going to request again: Please take just a moment and tell me which of these lessons resonate with you. Maybe it will help me whittle some more, or maybe - if we are blessed - it will open something else up for both, each and all of us to apply and bring to even greater fruition in 2011.
