For those who didn't read yesterday's AEDM Update, I am still bronzey and glowing from the La Femme All Women Art Show here in Bakersfield where I both showed art and performed poetry Saturday. To say it was fantastic for me is an understatement. The latest report from a friend of mine was she went to church today and the pastor was talking about my performance and then went on to do a sermon on the power of words.
Seriously? SERIOUSLY.
I even performed the poem/mantra/agreement I made with myself for this November. I will make a second blog post of that since I have yet to upload it to YouTube.
I have this feeling my HOW is showing up.
Anyway - I created more art today while I sat in the afterglow, focused on a concept Cmore introduced me to unknowingly a few weeks ago. I looked at him and said, "I am an ecru comma to you, aren't I?" He looked at me, confused, so I continued, "I am beige, at best, and I am nothing but a breath - a space holder in between two meaningful phases of your life. Right? That's me, an ecru comma."
Naturally I am now obsessed with commas.
My NaNoNovel (which has been completely neglected as of late but is going to be slathered with attention at a Write-a-Thon at Starbucks tomorrow) is called "She called herself an Ecru Comma" and my protagonist bears a stunning resemblance to.... me. With fictionalized features.
My art is much more cynical than I am. The foundation is newspaper print I used to cover my art table so it wouldn't get paint all over it. The commas are from an old, washed out book. I love the color combination of green and yellow: acrylic, which I made opaque by adding a lot of water.
Then I wrote on index cards, which you can see, the main message being "Please excuse me my unexorcised cynical streak."
There was an old part of me which wouldn't show any level of cynicism so I am proud... to boldly say the most optimistic among us, on occasion, become cynical.
Perhaps I am teaching Ecru a thing or two.
It has been a fantastic, albeit way too busy weekend.
Tomorrow we start tech week for "MAGGIE" so my posts will more than likely be theater intensive.
For the visual artists among us, perhaps this will be an interesting journey for you.
