What made me happy this week? Jamie Ridley asks us to share, so I do...
Happiness: it feels the way standing on the ledge, outside the tent where I spent the night was it just night-before-last? A quick get-away after my friend, Coryn, texted and asked if I was free from the afternoon on Wednesday until the morning, Thursday.
I have been so busy with rehearsal, I haven’t had
time to do spur of the moment adventures so having a wide swath to play in
filled me with happiness.
The drumming made me happy, too – the ten of us,
gathered around a campfire with drums and a rainstick and soundmakers. I closed
my eyes and drummed, so naturally. My intellect would say, “I have no idea what
I am doing!” but my heart was so happy I simply dove in and oooohhh the
sweetness of it.
The stories around the campfire made me happy.
The laughter, oh the laughter and my laughter over the stories and then my
laughter over the laughter. I giggle now, happy again.
I was so happy to fall in love with the moments writing my morning pages while sitting at a picnic table, surrounded by a chorus of starlings and unknown (I am guessing migratory) birds with orange and beige feathers. They had a conversation, it seemed, which I captured in poetry. This sort of thing ALWAYS makes me happy, especially with National Poetry Writing Month right around the corner.
I was happy watching a flock of quail running
along the dry river bed, watching the bunny scamper out and then scamper away
when she encountered the frolicking quail. I had never seen such a thing. I
stood on that cliff-edge, outside my cabin “porch” and felt so happy. Laughter,
bubbles. So happy.
I was happy coming home and watching opening
night of Katherine’s play, her first directing gig and her final production
while at EBHS. It makes me happy to be there for her first and her lasts. Every
first is sacred. Every last is sacred.
I was happy driving around rural Kern County, chasing the sunset. Agriculture is beautiful. Sunset is beautiful. Sweet happiness. Feels so real, this form of happiness.
What made you happy this week?
Write it, share
it, know it more intimately.
