It occurred to me as I walked this morning that
there literally is no such thing as an ordinary walk.
Today the emerald green grass looked as if
a leprechaun would pop out at any moment
and take me to her pot of gold. Rain has
been ever-present lately, closely followed
by sunshine, so we have had many
rainbows to follow.
No. No walk is ordinary.
The nurturing rainfall coupled with the sunshine
seems to have coarsed its energy through the
grass and the blossoming flowers and the
growth in the trees, the objects of nature
who are my daily companions.
I saw the first bunny rabbit of our almost
Spring two days ago.
No. No walk is ordinary.
This morning I could clearly see the mountains
to the South of Bakersfield. My eye reached out
across thirty miles, easily making out details in
the mountainside and the clouds which danced
alongside it.
Hope fills the air when it is as clear as it is today.
No. No walk is ordinary.
Hank and Buttercup buried their noses in the long,
wild grass along the bluffs. The color is lusty,
voluptuous, vibrant. It sings and dances, it shows
the way to all sorts of mysteries and buried
treasures and divine, secret passageways.
I can hear laughter in its movement. I am
entranced with its appearance. It is prosperous,
it opens doors, it says “Hooray! We can do
anything – we are the royalty of the world!”
No. No walk is ordinary.
