I sat next to my friend, Caroline, for a moment tonight.
She looked at me and said, “Julie, you are doing your make up differently. It looks really nice.”
I blinked, speechless, and said, “I am not wearing any make up.”
“No?” Now she blinked. “You are wearing lipstick…”
I nodded…. She continued, “No foundation? Nothing?”
“No. Nothing.”
She kept staring at me, surveying the scene.
“Your eyes look so bright and shining – and just – well?” I could sense her discomforth.
I smiled into her and said, “And thank you for the compliment.”
She laughed and said, “Somehow it feels backhanded!”
I loved it, actually. Hey – to think my skin alone looks good enough to compliment, I will take it, wholeheartedly.
I didn’t take Caroline’s words to say, “Usually your skin looks horrific!” I took it to mean, “You keep getting better and better!”
For someone with a recent birthday, this is a big thing!
