I can still see my feet.
My strong cup of coffee waits for me.
At home, I will drink it.
One step after one step through this creek.
I remembered my galoshes.
I can still see my feet.
I clear my hair away from my eyes.
I can still see my feet.
Chin down but not for long.

The human subject of this poem called to become the voice of the poem. She helped remind me how much I love writing fictional poetry in someone (or something else's) voice. Thank you to Tess Kincaid at Magpie Tales with her ongoing Sunday visual poetry prompts. I know it must get draining to her - so special kudos and warm hug to you, dear Tess. Inspired by the image? Write, link up, comment other poets for their efforts. You'll be delighted by the wide variety of poems that appear.

"Chin down but not for long.'
"Not for long" for me sets the tone for this, for indeed, this woman is stronger than he who would try to define, to limit her. Well written and captured.

I like the message here: One step at a time. Don't look too far ahead.
