I watch her,
curiosity lifting
my coffee cup
to my lips as
I trust my blue
eyes won't be
seen behind my
glasses as I watch,
like a middle
aged Harriet the
Spy I write in my
notebook:
"She fidgets with the red
cuff on her sleeve. It is
slightly damp and faded
ever so slightly. Did
I mention she seems
to have an affinity for all
things Japanese? A
zen tea, a collection
of haiku, unopened in
front of her, a purse with
Anime characters half
dead, half alive."
I watch him,
her boyfriend
brother boss
blind date
bill collector
bandmate approach
her, a cross
between a sneer
and a smile between
them.
Her restless movement
stops. She becomes
entirely
still.
I watch them.
Wonderful that is what a writer does great description.

Observation is so important for a writer. You have got it so right as each subject is a candidate for your pen.

I love this; I feel like the mom watching her teenaged daughter with her boyfriend. I also love the way you tied the concept of youth into the poem with the Harriet the Spy analogy.

Julie, you made the relationship between the two of them soooo deliciously creepy. Also, brought up memories of my daughter, Riley, who used to draw manga on all her schoolwork. Needless to say, now an artist!
Great take on the 3WW! Amy

Really liked the construction of this, but the voyeurism as well.
