Sometimes I write impromptu, improvised words in front of my
writing students to prove my work isn’t always braggable. In fact, on the way
to writing something respectable, I write a lot of “not so great” as a part of
the process.
This poem, as prompted by Carry on Tuesday with Keith Ramblings is
a brilliant example of such writing.
The prompt took a lyric from the Beatles – which lead me to
Google and a listen via YouTube and guess what?
Downright embarrassing poetry ensued.
In my jovial nature and willingness to write badly – I offer you…
BETTER
My foot reached down
And swiped into place or
Tried to swipe into place
I hear a foreign guitar nee sitar
Or something trying toward exotic
And I consider if the guitar ever
Almost reached down and
Swiped a dog rather than
A picker or player or a Nehru
Jacket wearing crooner
My mind traveled off its
Pre-prompted course
Streaming screaming far
Too fast
Cliché ridden
“What’s important
lasts” and I
groan thinking
“I’ve got better than that…”
I’ve got better than that?
= = = =
Each day just goes so fast, 'better' will arrive before you know it.

A lighthearted quickie. Refreshing. There's nothing wrong with that.
