I wonder sometimes, if I knew you
Before, if maybe somewhere we
Walked past each other on the street
And felt the tug, the knock, but
Didn’t know where or how or who
So we kept going, unaware and
Blind to the other’s presence
It is more likely it never happened
It would be more likely that we
Never happened
But somehow, for some reason
We have happened
And now it is up to us
To not worry about the knowing
What is next or why or how
And choose to stay aware and open
To the other’s presence
Whether only a dog’s-width-in-the-bed away
Or several hundred miles of pavement away
Or a distracted thought, tumbling away
I wonder sometimes, if I know you
If maybe somewhere we
Will walk, toward each other and decide
It is just fine exactly as it is
And not need to press our
Noses against the glass
Breathing fog between us
