Today’s Writing Prompt: Laughter and love will change……
Today you will be more of an expert on laughter than when the day started. YAY!
The sound of laughter is one of the most precious
sounds on the planet. It is one we can use to fuel our writing. We may be energized by it or inspired by it…. or we may be… touched in infinite, unique to us ways.
Writer Anne Lamott says, “Laughter is carbonated holiness.”
How does it feel when you hold a laughing child close?
To me it feels like rejoicing made into flesh.
Kahlil Gibran said, "In the sweetness of friendship
let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For
in the dew of little things the heart finds its
morning and is refreshed."
ITV.com tells us "A good bout of laughter provides
a safety valve which shuts off the flow of stress
hormones which is triggered by our biological
'fight or flight' response when we feel stress,
anger or hostility.
Unblocked, and in the absence of laughter, these
stress hormones can weaken the immune system,
increase the number of blood platelets (which
can clog the arteries) and raise blood pressure.
When we laugh, natural killer cells which destroy
tumours and viruses increase, along with
Gamma-interferon (a disease-fighting protein),
T-cells (important for our immune system) and
B-cells (which make disease-fighting antibodies).
As well as lowering blood pressure, laughter
increases oxygen in the blood, which also
encourages healing."
Humor in our mind and heart is one of the ways
we use our writing to create laughter for the reader
or report laughter in ourselves. Some of the most
often used "online lingo" is LOL for Laugh Out
Loud or ROFL which means "Roll on the floor
laughing".
Laughing is a communal activity – which may be
a simple community of you and your reader.
Axel-and-alice.com teaches us these facts:
"Laughter is comprised of bursts of vowel-like
sounds that come in speech in the same places
that punctuation would come if you were writing
down the words you were saying. It often comes
after saying quite ordinary things. For example:
'Well, we've gotta go now. Ha. Ha. Ha.'
When we laugh we often show our teeth. (That
shows our nice smile now. But for our ancestors,
millions of years ago, it would have been baring
their teeth--a sign of being fierce. Perhaps laughter
makes smiling somewhow 'safer'. I'm not really
going to bite you, if you stay my friend!)
Other primates laugh, too. But because they
can't make speech sounds, they sort of pant-and-huff-and-puff
instead. For instance, gorillas and chimpanzees
pant in this special way when they're tickled."
I have a story of love and laughter to share:
I remember the day I fell in love…. with a furry creature whose presence filled the movie screen.
He was unique, creative, resourceful, caring, courageous, athletic, and had a great sense of humor.
He consistently defied the odds.
Could a woman find a better man?
He was also covered with a strange combination
of blue and purplish fur and his best friend was a
one eyed green creature who was constantly
yakkety yakking throughout our time together.
Who is my new Romeo? Sully, the lead monster
in Disney's movie, Monster's, Inc.
Sully (along with several significant assorted monsters)
transform the society they call home. They change
their community from one that is actually powered
by the screams of fear into one which receives its
energy from laughter. With ingenuity, passion, and
a spark of love from a little girl who once petrified him,
Sully overcame tremendous adversity to bring his
people from power shortage to power in abundance.
The formula Sully used in Disney's surprisingly
inspirational movie can be applied to successful
transformation in human's lives as well.
To turn your switch, listen to the following.
Examine the roots of your fear. Is what you are
afraid of truly a danger to you? Experiment.
Listen to your inner knowing. Step out.
Think productive thoughts: train yourself to be
an expert at your own effectiveness. Embrace everything is NOT how it seems. Find methods to create new paradigms and then shift...and bring others along to have even more fun.
Align with people who truly care about you. Great
achievements rarely come alone. Having a team
of partners, a writing mastermind group like we have here: even a single writing partner, can exponentially increase effectiveness.
Realize that the truth is sometimes hidden
in surprising packages such as in free flow writing.
Don't accept "failure" as an option. True,
odds may seem stacked against you, but as
the lead character in another inspiring animated
classic, "Chicken Run" said, "Our odds are one
in a million? Then we still have a chance".
Write with the knowledge that laughter and love
will change the face of your writing. Writing will change
the course of your life. It will change the course of
the universe.
This is a truth that is repeated.
Let's prepare to write:
Laughter and love will change the course of your
writing. It will change the face of your life. It will
change the rhythm of the universe.
This is a truth that is repeated.
And repeated.
And repeated.
Our prompt today is designed to reinforce
this knowing.
It is simple.
Begin your writing with this phrase:
Laughter and love will change……
(Very simple, very true…)
Laughter and love will change…..
Last time – please begin to write if you have
not already:
Laughter and love will change…..
Be open to laughter today – be alert and aware
to anything and everything that tickles your
funny bone.
Write it.
Live. Love. Laugh.
Please share your writing with us using Mr. Linky. If you use this prompt to blog, we would love to know and include you in our community. Mr. Linky is an easy creative tool to help connections happen easily.
What I'm posting is something I wrote yesterday, hope that's ok. I was having a bad day and transformed it into a more general, funny commentary. At least, it amused me. After the fact. And thank you all who were on the call on the 15th! I listened, I laughed, and then I wrote!

ofcourse, Lorna - it is always a-ok to post whatever you are writing here, no matter what the "official" lesson was that day. We are all about YOU here (each YOU that is here!) and YOUR writing. So grateful to see you posted!
