Something happens when people gather together to string words on a page. It may be an ordinary day before the gathering begins. Even when we sit, waiting, anticipation like yarn, waiting to be knit together invisibly hangs in the air between us.
I have been blessed over the past few years to gather individuals together to create writing community in a variety of forms.
This morning during one of my Writing Sessions, a woman who has written with me for years commented about what happens when we all gather to write. Somehow, our words gain a different type of momentum. It is present when we meet and it is present when we leave our circle. Sometimes it grows, sometimes it fades and sometime our abundant writing frustrates us and sometimes our lack of words on the page frustrates us.
The thing is when a community has gathered to scoop us up, when we are not writing alone, something shifts almost imperceivably.
Especially when it isn't a community filled with people whose breath seems to carry red-slash mark bearing pencils, residuals from childhood classrooms. Instead, the air is filled with encouragement, constructive feedback and most of all, hope.
This is why I have created Writing Camp. It started as a dream to have a specific place and it has turned into, for now, a roaving space or place wherever people who write or who want to write, gather.
Right now there are two weeks left in our "And Now You Write" program, a Camp via Blog and Teleseminar Writing Sessions. You may join in there and try it out - there is no charge for the basic program.
You may join our facebook group and hang out there in "Virtual" camp.
More live, in-person events will be planned soon - and if you would like to gather some friends and host a camp, let's chat about doing that together. I'll come to your town and facilitate. You provide the beginning campers and together we'll do the rest.
