I have so many stories to tell, so much left over from the past week - I think the writing intensive "camp" I am hosting will be perfect... so I will apply as I teach.
After all, the past week was creative on so many different planes – but one of the ways it was creative
was in how I was able to hold my thoughts via jot rather than sitting at my
computer and downloading “a-ha’s” as I go along.
The world
changes when the a-ha moments are speeding through your skin and the computer
isn’t available as it normally is, or in my case, I elected to not plug in much
while I was traveling.
It was a
great exercise in trust – in awareness – and in knowing whatever was most
significant for my readers to read later would remain.
I was surprised amidst all the hub bub I managed to write and publish a couple poems on my blog – probably sheer timing… and the fact that on Wednesday overnight I found myself sitting in a café in Tucson with my lap top. That was the last time I had a significant burst of written creativity.
I kept taking photos and I kept writing my morning pages and I kept having insights perhaps more than usual. There is something about wandering about an unknown city alone without any forced agenda that just brings the a-ha’s to life in an almost surreal, fast paced way.
Everything
became an insight, be it a seemingly insignificant cactus plant to a
conversation about bus schedules with a stranger or a smoothie. I don’t know
many people who are brought to tears while deep in thought writing an
unfamiliar bus in an unfamiliar city, but that is just what the last few days
have been like.
Hanging out with
Mom and Katherine was icing on the cake. I think my favorite moments with them
were at Saguaro National Monument. I have never seen so many cacti ever. Ever!
I came home for filming HamletMachine in Morro Bay. I literally got off the overnight train from Tucson to Los Angeles and was whisked away to Morro Bay for filming, but not before I could talk to a couple cab drivers and a random man on the street. These are the type of juice-for-creative-insights I adore.
Morro Bay was
beyond beautiful for the shoot and my director was happy with my work which makes
me happy. I got to wear crazy make-up, a somewhat wild costume and enjoy
soaking up the sun and surf with friends. It was a perfect end to a phenomenal
trip to Tucson, which I hope to document throughout this week.
Check back!

What a fun week you had! Love the costume.
