"It is not a word spoken,
Few words are said;
Nor even a look of the eyes
Nor a bend of the head,
"But only a hush of the heart
That has too much to keep,
Only memories waking
That sleep so light a sleep."
Tonight I walked through my back
door and stood, transfixed at the
sight I beheld when I stood at
the top of the short flight of
stairs which leads to my garage.
I opened the door into the house.
"Katherine, come here!" I said,
never questioning whether my
would make her way towards me or not.
I heard her feet padding along the
hardwood hallway and turned towards
her as she opened the door and joined
me, facing west.
"Look!" I said.
We both stood, silently, facing the sky
the sun had recently left. There were
Maxfield Parrish-style clouds and a
multi-color sky of rosey-lavendar,
burnt orange, deep blue hues.
Venus held court on her throne in the
middle of the sky, bright and beckoning.
I prayed a silent prayer of gratitude
as my daughter remembered a commitment
made she needed to follow.
She broke the spell, which was
perfectly fine, as now I will hold
that moment in my heart for eternity.
That's where that moment lives - in
eternity, eternally, effervescently.
A gift of presence for my daughter
