Today Emma wrote her first ever condolence
note to a friend whose father died recently.
She wouldn't have done so on her own - I
thought it was important and significant that
she support her friend, just like I thought
it was important that Katherine went to her
first funeral when she was 7 and a classmate's
father died - she was the only child there
except for the man's children... and he
was a co-worker of mine, too....
Remembering those who are grieving is
so important - and there is no excuse for
saying nothing. Even saying "I don't know
what to say" is better than being silent.
I lost touch with a lot of friends after my
daughter died - so I speak from experience.
I would rather have a speechless caring friend
who let me know they were speechless and
caring than a friend who stayed away because
they were SELF conscious about not knowing
what to say.
Be conscious of the people who are hurting
around you - make some extra effort.
I wrote this short poem - in honor of
Emma's note to her friend.
May the words bless and remind you... of
the significance of each breath.
Cherish each in breath
Gives itself so life may grow
Accept its richness
Release each out breath
Return spirit to its source
Rejoice - we are one

That is beautiful.
And you are so right. Thanks for the reminder. Someone at work just lost a child.
