Women: Stop Waiting - Start Writing Now
Have you been seeking a place to write, in community, with like hearted women who write? Our Autumn Writing Circle begins meeting on Wednesdays at 8 AM on September 23, 2009 - from the comfort of your home or office via Teleconference line.
The Feminine Pen Writing Circle is a sacred space for women who write.
We provide soulful writing experiences through a one-hour-weekly teleseminar that is passionately playful. It will bring positive change to your writing through writing exercises and fieldwork that go beyond the norm.
In each hour long session, we won't only talk about writing, we will actually spend time writing - bringing to life our writing hopes and dreams right in the writing community itself. We will share our writing - which may sound frightening to you - frightening is good! It helps you to grow!
You see, the Feminine Pen Writing Circle it isn't about competing with the other writers, it is about nurturing and supporting each writer and each writer's dreams. It is about individualized accountability and meeting you, the writer, exactly where you are in that precise moment - and shining the light along your writing path so that you can take your writing from where it is to where you want it to be when our Autumn Writing Circle comes to completion.
Some of you may wonder, “Why have you created a writing circle specifically for women?”. It is simple. Elaine Gill summed it up for me this way: “If you have any doubts that we live in a society controlled by men, try reading down the index of contributors to a volume of quotations, looking for women's names.” I am compelled to lead women writers because I know we need to develop more women to lead more women so the result will eventually become exponential. Women's voices need to reach more deeply into every aspect of the world. We must not stay sequestered in our comfort zones. We must move out - and be heard. We - You, Your Best Friend, Your Sister, Your Mother, Your Daughter - MUST write. The Feminine Pen Writing Circle is one way to insure women's voices will be heard.
I enjoy working with writers who want to devote their whole selves - heart, mind, soul, spirit, time, effort, to writing. It has been a while since I have been willing to create a program of this length - and now is the time.
How does each hour-long session work?
1. We start with a Writing Warm Up - Yes, we meet and we write, right away. This creates a separate space from the "rest of the world" - and together we step into our writing sanctuary.
2. We experience a writing lesson followed by an immediate writing exercise that focuses on strengthening whatever skill or idea was introduced in the lesson. This is what I call a "door opening" exercise, where the process begins in the writing circle and then extends into more writing outside the .
3. As the facilitator, I follow an outline and provide notes for each session. Sometimes the participants of the session will bring something to the circle which needs to be discussed so we do so, live, right then and there. I record each session so we can follow up on these surprising threads later, sometimes modifying course content in order to "follow the flow of the greatest good" for each writer in the session. I have a rule to have more than enough lesson material so that each writer receives more material than she even hopes to receive.
4. After the instruction, there is a time of wrap up, within which each participant verbally shares something she has taken away from the circle.
5. Each session includes Writing Fieldwork, which each writer will complete independently. This will include writing that starts in class, but also will include the setting of writing goals and intentions and then following through with these writing goals and intentions. Individualized laser coaching and complete sessins are available to each writer on an "as needed" basis.
You may wonder, "Is the time right for me? I am a beginner..." or "I have been writing for my entire life..." or "I can't seem to move beyond this writing block I have been having..." and my soul/sole request of you is that you put any "I can't" thoughts aside and instead think of reasons why saying "Yes" will work for you. Its like my friend Kabir says:
